The other day I talked with a student, who asked my opinion of a drawing he had recently completed. It was a charcoal drawing, depicting a large rabbit sitting on a toilet and polishing a pistol. He claimed that he had drawn it to draw something "with no spiritual implications."

What is art, except spiritual implications? I do not mean that all art must be religious, but art speaks the language of the human soul. To attempt to do "art" without that language is tantamount to delivering a great oratorio with duct tape over one's mouth. It is not only futile, but senseless. It is a crime against art itself.
